[Rosephanye Powell’s] music is so fully imbued with the idiomatic style of the spiritual, so reminiscent in gesture of works like Great Camp Meeting, and so evocative of the work of great composers, that it has found a place as a remarkable contemporary expression of the genre.

–Chicago A cappella

Compositionally, this is an excellent piece using impressive techniques that are truly captivating. The rhythmic structure develops from the superb interplay between the voices, and the layering of sound upon sound creates a musical tapestry.

The instrumentation core is a modern band, and a full orchestration is also available for this unique work from Rosephanye Powell.”

Passionate and Purposeful

“Your gifts will open doors for you, and if you are a genuine person, when that door opens, it will keep opening wider. If you have the talent and the skills and doors open, but you don’t have the heart or the personality to relate to people, that door will only open with limitations.”

Representation Within the Choral Industry

“I am humbled to be able to represent an aspect of the African-American voice in American concert choral music. And mine is just one voice. However, I do believe that because of the opportunity that has been afforded to me, I am able to share some of the African-American experience with others nationally and internationally. As much as I enjoy composing and hearing my works performed by others, I enjoy equally the opportunities that being a composer provides for sharing my heritage… culturally and musically.”
